ABOUT ME

Kara Payne is the visionary behind The EnLIGHTened First Lady — a transformational communicator, prayer warrior, and faith-driven leader dedicated to helping women step into their divine power. Known for her radiant spirit and unwavering belief in God and community, Kara has built a platform that uplifts and equips women to lead lives of confidence, and calling.

Currently serving as a Senior Communications Specialist for the Florida League of Cities, Kara's career has spanned multiple media roles, beginning with her work as a reporter and producer for WFSU-TV/The Florida Channel, where she covered state government. A proud graduate of Florida State University with a degree in Media Communication Studies, she went on to earn a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of West Florida in 2020—a year that also marked the birth of her son, Marcus Payne II (affectionately known as Deuce), during the global pandemic.​

Kara is the proud wife of the Reverend Marcus R. Payne, Pastor of Saint Paul AME Church in the Chaires Community. Together, they are raising two children, including their 1-year-old daughter, Kobi, and are doting parents to their English Bulldog, Major Payne. With a heart for service, Kara actively gives back to her community through various leadership roles, including serving as the Coordinator for the Tallahassee District Ministers Spouse Alliance and on the Advisory Council for Safe Families for Children North Florida Chapter. She also volunteers for Leon County Schools and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and the National Black Alumni of Florida State University.

Through EnLIGHTened First Lady, Kara brings her experience as a millennial pastor’s wife and first-time mom to her blog, sharing candid insights and inspiration for women balancing faith, family, and their own leadership journeys. Whether speaking at events, coordinating community programs, or mentoring others, Kara strives to create spaces where women feel supported, empowered, and enlightened.
